I test drove a 2024 CX-5 Turbo Signature this weekend on a whim and I'm genuinely impressed. The interior quality punches WAY above its price point - the Nappa leather and real wood trim feel like something from a luxury brand. The driving dynamics are what really got me though. The steering has actual feedback (unlike the dead feel in most SUVs), the chassis is communicative, and that turbo engine pulls hard from low RPMs. The downsides: cargo space is below average for the class, rear legroom is tight for tall passengers. Anyone else think Mazda doesn't get enough credit?

Mazda has been quietly killing it for years. The CX-5, CX-50, and the new CX-90 are all punching above their weight class. Only thing holding them back is brand perception.

I looked at the CX-5 and ended up with a CR-V specifically because of cargo space. If you don't need to haul strollers and sports gear, the CX-5 is probably the better car to drive.
