Just helped my sister negotiate her first car purchase and was reminded how much strategy matters. Here's what worked:
1. We got quotes from 3 competing dealerships via email before ever setting foot in one. Saved hours.
2. We waited until the last week of the month. The sales manager was clearly motivated to hit a quota.
3. We were genuinely willing to walk away. Once they saw we weren't emotionally attached, the numbers got better.
4. We negotiated the OTD price, not the monthly payment. This is the most important thing.
What negotiation tactics have worked for you?
